Personally I don’t like vertical splitters because of the engine placement not protected in the horizontal position. Most splitting will be done in horizontal, therefore the engine gets positioned the axle and/or hyd. reservoir. Little credibility to this video calling it Top 5 Best, hardly… The Champion came close.
I bought the 25 ton county line log splitter from tractor supply and has never let me down yet. Most of the other brands I looked at didn’t even come with hydraulic fluid. Also starts first pull every time!
The Dirty Hands splitter is terrible. A neighbor had one, I used it quite a bit. Note the log catch table…and how logs can vibrate off and fall directly on the engine. Also, their design for the 4-way wedge sucks. Way overpriced. The bottom line splitter at Tractor Supply is way better.
Is it really that hard to make what we want? second cycle time. Slip on 4 way wedge that actually has sides long enough to split 4 ways. Auto retract. I literally hate when they “a fast 17 second cycle time.” I also hate when that electric one says “two handed operation for your safety.
First two things everyone would have to do to that would be to disable that and build it into a work table so you don’t have to squat down like your taking a dump in the woods to use it!Why does everyone load logs from the top? I usually sit in a chair and split it on the ground, especially with the big logs that you can never pick up by hand.
I been using a 20 ton log splitter and it splits everything i throw at it, i don’t know what the 30 ton offers over it?. The want to get a electric one to run off a generator or outlet, less noise for me to deal with constantly, and i also want to build a bigger end plate on it and modify it to spin around with the larger logs, have like a circle disc or something so i can spin it around and not have to wear myself out moving a huge oak.
Often the big logs never split through in one cut, i always have to split it on both ends and even then if there is a few fibers attached i need to use a bar to wedge it open. I just don’t like a lot of these setups and designs, i really want to buy parts and make my own.
