In 1965 my parents owned a home adjacent to the right-of-way for the new Interstate Highway 94.
Hours of entertainment for us small boys when they constructed this stretch of freeway. Saw lots of Cat crawler tractors pulling towed scrapers!! The smoke and noise from them then is nothing like it today!
ALL the equipment barked loudly and left huge clouds of black smoke then!
Very nice, with tracks that look as if they’ve seen no rough ground! This was the ubiquitous crawler tractor when I was young. If you were lucky, you’d see a huge D6 clearing a housing estate with a Euclid pay scraper!
I spent many hours of my youth driving one of those with a rope starter and pony engine. Sounds like it had a knock or an exhaust leak. I’ve never seen a plow like that.
