I have to say the jack trick probably isn’t the best idea since the base of the tree can always kick out and you would not want to be behind the tree. Plus the time it took them to put the jack in they could have just cut it right and it would’ve fell that way anyways.
You just have to make the back cut higher up then the front cut and it should fall the way you want it to. You just have to be careful with trees that lean a specific way.
